Hello! I'm Ren, just some ordinary guy that doesn't know what to do with his life. I like boba, maids, and rabbits. I draw stuff once in a blue moon. Currently learning Japanese and some code. This site is where I'll be dumping all of my translations.
I don't have credentials in anything, but I do plan on taking the JLPT one day. I've been learning Japanese for over four years and lived in Okinawa for a portion of my childhood.
Here is a list of my current interests that I translate from:
- Ensemble Stars: Drama Club, Ra*bits
- Project Sekai: Shinonomes, Nightcord at 21:00, Wonderlands×Showtime
- The IDOLM@STER: #LookingForAnUnitName, Dramatic Stars
- Uma Musume: Agnes Tachyon, Manhattan Cafe
For a more general about, read my Carrd. As for how long I've been into EnStars...I've been stuck in this hell since 2015.
On Translations
I try to make my translations sound like natural (spoken) English as much as possible, with the exception of honorifics. You'll see me take some liberties here and there. I'll also do my best to convey the script's original tone. Do note that I am still a beginner at translating!
I can also work as an English editor. Let me know if you need a helping hand.
In regards to my Uma Musume translations, my trainer is male, so the translated script will reflect on that. The only difference in dialogue depending on your trainer's gender is their first-person pronoun (私/俺) and how the characters refer to them. I will try to use neutral terms for them if I can, though. Feel free to change the script in your mind.
Personal Style Guide
I tend to follow the Chicago Manual of Style, most of the time.
- American English, western name order
- Honorifics that have English equivalents are to be changed
部長
would bePresident
(orCaptain
, depending on the club),先生
will be changed according to the character's occupation, etc.
- Appellations, location names, and the likes are localized or changed to its English equivalent if possible
ボケ閣下
toYour Idiocy
(localized),トレーニングルーム
toGym
(English equivalent)リズリン
toRhythm Link
(abbreviating it in spoken English doesn't make sense)
- Official romanization is used if there is any (and it's not incorrect)
- If not, long vowels are rendered with one letter (e.g.
おう
too
) - Songs are an exception
- If not, long vowels are rendered with one letter (e.g.
- No "smart" quotes or ellipses (regular periods are used instead)
- Special characters are used as line endings (e.g.,
Amazing☆
) - English words in the original script are italicized
- If the English uses improper grammar, fix it unless it's supposed to sound bad
- No translating
フフフ
tofufufu
- Playscript-style annotations for actions (e.g.
(Whispering)
)
Do note that collaborations would often follow a different style guide.
Guidelines
- Do not host my translations on other sites without my prior approval.
- Screenshots are okay, as long as it's not the entire story.
- You can use my translations in bots specific to a character, group, or ship, as long as credit (by name) is given somewhere. It would be appreciated if you let me know about them too.
- If you are going to use my translations for your own personal bot (i.e. a collection of quotes from any particular media, a bot that runs on your personal account), please contact me beforehand.
- Please let me know if you're going to re-translate my works into other languages.
- You may share this site with others.
Sometimes, I hardsub stories. Those can be found on my Youtube channel. I also scanlate, which can be found on Mangadex.
Finale
Please let me know of any mistranslations. Suggestions on what can be improved are also welcome.
